Like there is something redeemable in him. It’s a trick, you’ve known it’s been a trick the whole time, and he’s going to kill you. Your enemy tricked you into coming here, he lied to you, but it doesn’t matter because there is always mercy. You save the little boy because he’s a little boy, even when you know what he grows up to be, and hundreds of years later the manufactured race that slaughtered your own knows what mercy is. Your enemy does not kill you because your greatest weakness, your loved ones, come to save you. okay these are all the doctors in chronological order in the current canon
everything was normal until John Hurt, who was a secret incarnation of The Doctor introduced retroactively in 2013
this incarnation didn’t call himself The Doctor during his life, because he didn’t feel like he lived up to the title
so despite Christopher Eccleston being the 10th incarnation of the Doctor, he was still referred to as The 9th Doctor
THEN
during one of David Tennant’s episodes, he gets shot by a dalek for the first time ever and is forced to regenerate, but decides not to change his face by siphoning the regeneration energy into his own disembodied hand which is a fucking long story
the short of it is that David Tennant regenerated into himself
so
David Tennant, known as the 10th Doctor, was actually the 11th and 12th incarnations of The Doctor, but was still known as the 10th Doctor for his whole tenure
so now we’re on Jodie Whittaker right
who
is known as the 13th doctor, because John Hurt wasn’t called The Doctor and David Tennant was still called the 10th Doctor even when he was the 11th and 12th
but technically she is the 15th incarnation of The Doctor and could just as easily be called the 15th Doctor

If you see in multiple dimensions it’s about recognising the pattern of events that leads to what you’re trying to accomplish.
It’s like, you’ve determined to make a curry, and you’re wandering around an open air market under the bluest sky imaginable and smelling cumin and juggling potatoes and bargaining over the price of lamb versus chicken and your companion trails behind you querying “but where is the shopping list?” as though the curry can be defined as a list of set ingredients when it’s the multiplicity of possible experiences and the inherent sacred uncertainty of the process
but obviously you are going to be eating an actual curry for dinner. That’s the plan. You’re just not going to confine that plan to a Tiresome List.
